Barrier sheets
The barrier sheets produced by Pannunion are multilayer, coextruded sheets, various layers of which provide the product with different characteristics. The Ethyl Vinyl Alcohol (EVOH) layer provides the gas (oxygen) and flavour tight effect, which can be regulated by the layer thickness. The other materials used for the creation of the other layers ensures other important characteristics (processibility, heat stability, steam tight effect, weldability, mechanical features, etc). These products can be produced in different types: colourless, white, coloured, multicoloured (e.g. white inside and yellow outside). By applying various additives the different features can be improved: impact resistance, cold impact resistance, mechanical features, transparency, weldability, the velocity and the temperature of further processing.
Fields of use: cold meats, prepared meals, fruits, dry products, fish, sauces, stewed fruits, flavoured products, meats, meat products, pet foods, baby foods, etc.
The following technologies applied by barrier packaging are able to increase the lifetime of the packaged product:
MAP (modified atmosphere packaging): An inert gas (nitrogen, CO2, and their combination) is locked inside the package, and the applied EVOH layer prevents oxygen from getting into the packaging, so the product will not deteriorate.
PP based barrier packaging is suitable for pasteurising and sterilising. During pasteurising a thermal shock below 100 oC is applied, which destroys most of the microorganisms, increasing the product's lifetime.
The sterilising is performed on a temperature higher than 100 oC in hot water and steam autoclaves.

Our sheets are suitable for food applications and comply with the regulations MÉ 1-2-2002/72 and MÉ 1-2-82/711 identical to the applicable EU directives (Commission Directive No. 2002/72/EC and Council Directive No. 82/711/EEC), and Regulation No. 1935/2004/EC on materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
